Grundfos UP Two-Way Zone Valves for hydronic heating applications incorporate a 24-VAC, normally closed, motorized actuator that is removable with the push of a built-in button for easier installation and servicing. With its compact and installer-friendly design, the in-line actuator features a high gear ratio that eliminates gear-tooth stress, water hammer and valve “bouncing” for virtually silent operation.
Available with or without a sealed auxiliary end switch, the actuator has an enlarged, coil-spring gear transmission that can deliver 20 psi (pounds per square inch) of close-off force at a flow rate of 7.5 Cv. The valve body itself is made of durable forged brass, rated at 300 psi, with a two-way flow and a high Cv rating. All components are corrosion-resistant.

To help mark National Fire Prevention Week, the Excelsior, Minn., Fire District hosted a dramatic, side-by-side demonstration of two room fires – one equipped with fire sprinklers and the other without – as part of its Fire Prevention Open House and Safety Fair on Thursday evening, Oct. 7, 2010. More than 1,200 local residents attended the event.
The Open House event culminated with firefighters simultaneously lighting fires in two similarly sized and furnished rooms, one sprinklered and the other not.
“By providing this unique live fire comparison, our residents gained an appreciation for the aggressive nature of home fires and realized what an incredible advantage it is to have a home fire sprinkler system,” says Excelsior Fire District Fire Inspector Kellie Murphy-Ringate.

The National Fire Sprinkler Association (NFSA) recently recognized Uponor for its 10 years of membership and its continued dedication to the fire sprinkler industry through products, education, training and awareness. According to NFSA North Central Regional Manager Robert Kleinheinz, “It’s rare to have a PEX manufacturer, such as Uponor, be a member for such a long time,” says Kleinheinz. “I think it’s great that Uponor is training and educating people about this industry. It shows they want to do more than just sell a product.”
